I used to believe that destiny was a silly idea made up for movies and greeting cards.

In the past few years, however, I’ve changed my mind.

Here’s why.

15 signs that tell you that someone is meant to be in your life

The following signs are green lights from the universe.

They tell you that someone is meant to be in your life. You know them for a reason and are intended to either be with them or be close to them.

Let’s find out more…

1) Their values align with yours

The first of the important signs that tell you that someone is meant to be in your life is that your values align.

Values are like the foundation of a building. They inform what we do and why we do it.

If you have a strong value of honesty or being close with family, this will tend to be a driving factor in many other things you do.

If you tend to prioritize independence and focus on career success, by contrast, this value could be a major factor in your life.

If you meet someone else and they just effortlessly seem to be on the same page as you in terms of values, it’s a sign from the universe or God that they’re meant to be in your life in some way.

Whether that’s as a romantic partner, friend, mentor or colleague depends on the context.

But rest assured that your meeting with them isn’t random.

2) You keep bumping into them

Another of the top signs that tell you that someone is meant to be in your life is that you keep bumping into them unexpectedly.

Whether it’s at the grocery store, at an event or even at random gatherings that you go to, this person seems to keep appearing.

“Oh hi, you again…”

Well, it could just be random.

But usually it’s more than that.

I know that in my life one rule I’ve adopted just to be safe is to try to connect with and talk more to someone who I see three or more times unexpectedly in various places.

I consider this an SMS from God telling me to talk more to this person.

I consider our paths to be crossing for perhaps some reason I am not yet aware of, including connecting more with them, or helping or being helped by them.

You just never know!

3) They’re pointing you to a deeper relationship with yourself

Another of the crucial signs that tell you that someone is meant to be in your life is that they point you towards your most important relationship.

This is your relationship with yourself.

Think about it:

Have you ever asked yourself why love is so hard?

Why can’t it be how you imagined growing up? Or at least make some sense…

When you’re dealing with understanding why somebody is in your life and whether there’s any deeper reason for it, it’s easy to become frustrated and even feel helpless.

I know that I often used to believe every girl I met was “destiny” only to be disappointed over and over.

You may even be tempted to throw in the towel and give up on love.

I want to suggest doing something different.

It’s something I learned from the world-renowned shaman Rudá Iandê. He taught me that the way to find love and intimacy is not what we have been culturally conditioned to believe.

In fact, many of us self-sabotage and trick ourselves for years, getting in the way of meeting a partner who can truly fulfill us.

As Rudá explains in this mind blowing free video, many of us chase love in a toxic way that ends up stabbing us in the back.

We get stuck in awful relationships or empty encounters, never really finding what we’re looking for and continuing to feel horrible about things like second-guessing how much somebody is really meant to be in our life.

We fall in love with an ideal version of someone instead of the real person.

We try to “fix” our partners and end up destroying relationships.

We try to find someone who “completes” us, only to fall apart with them next to us and feel twice as bad.

Rudá’s teachings showed me a whole new perspective.

While watching, I felt like someone understood my struggles to find and nurture love for the first time – and finally offered an actual, practical solution to understanding what is and is not real love and real connection.

If you’re done with unsatisfying dating, empty hookups, frustrating relationships and having your hopes dashed over and over, then this is a message you need to hear.

I guarantee you will not be disappointed.

4) They challenge you in unexpected ways

Another of the signs that tell you that someone is meant to be in your life is that they challenge you in unexpected ways.

There are so many people out there willing to just tell you what you want to hear, from an unscrupulous used car salesman to a friend who just wants to use you for a short loan or ego boost.

But think about the true friends, romantic partners and people in our lives whose advice we truly value and know is legit.

They don’t always tell us what makes us feel good or what we want to hear.

They tell us the ugly truth, and sometimes it hurts.

But our respect for them grows as we realize that they care enough about us to tell us what they really believe and to truly challenge our preconceptions.

The truth is that not getting what you want and being challenged is often the biggest blessing you can receive in your journey to owning yourself and your own power.

5) They support you when nobody else will

On the flipside, another of the signs that tell you that someone is meant to be in your life is that they know just the right time to have your back.

When nobody takes your side, they’re there for you to be your shoulder to cry on and understand you.

As Simon and Garfunkel sing in their timeless 1970 song “Bridge Over Troubled Water:”

“When you’re weary

Feeling small

When tears are in your eyes

I’ll dry them all

I’m on your side

Oh, when times get rough

And friends just can’t be found

Like a bridge over troubled water

I will lay me down…”

Rest assured, this is the kind of person who’s meant to be in your life.

Not codependency but rather a trusting and solid relationship where you know that if things truly go to complete shit they will, in fact, have your back.

And you’ll have theirs, too.

6) You never run out of things to talk about

Next up in terms of the signs that tell you that someone is meant to be in your life is that you never run out of things to talk about.

Even silence itself is refreshing when it’s between the two of you.

You simply never get tired of their presence, and the feeling of connection you have is boundless.

You have your ups and downs, just the way every individual also does, but you never lose that silver cord of connection that ties you so sweetly together.

You always have some kind of topic to discuss, and even if you don’t it really makes no difference.

You just don’t get tired of each other.

And time apart only makes the reunion that much sweeter when you do reconnect.

7) You find yourself inexplicably drawn to them

Another of the important signs that tell you that someone is meant to be in your life is that you find yourself inexplicably drawn to them.

Something in them makes you want to be around them, talk to them and foster a deeper connection with them.

Is it friendship, love, a mentorship kind of connection or more?

There’s a lot you can tell by exploring your own feelings, but sometimes an outside point of view is also very helpful.

While this article explores the main signs that a person is in your life for meaningful reasons, it can be helpful to speak to a relationship coach about your situation.

With a professional relationship coach, you can get advice specific to your life and your experiences…

8) They call forth the best in you

One of the most crucial signs that tell you that someone is meant to be in your life is that they call forth the best in you.

They make you want to be a better person and embrace your strengths and follow your dreams.

There’s a distinction here that’s really important to make, however.

Somebody who’s meant to be in your life never makes you feel unworthy or striving to “gain their approval.”

That is a codependent and toxic pattern which never ends well and locks people in a toxic embrace.

Instead, the desire to be better is always:

  • Voluntary
  • Supported every step of the way
  • Unconditional (not that they will love or care about you but only if you do XYZ).

The overall point here is that a person who’s meant to be in your life will always see the best in you and call out the best in you.

9) Others notice your special connection

Another of the key signs that tell you that someone is meant to be in your life is that others notice the special connection as well.

Your friends, family and those close to you notice that this person and you have some link.

Even if you’re on the fence about it or not quite sure what it means, everyone seems sure that there’s something to it.

Now, of course you shouldn’t let others define what matters most in your life, but this is still worth paying attention to.

Oftentimes we fail to notice just how crucial someone is in our lives until they’re gone.

That’s why others pointing out the specialness of a connection can serve as a kind of wake-up call.

Wow, I really do love this person!

Or;

I never really realized how much this person means to me and how devastated I’d be if they were gone.

10) Chance brings you together (repeatedly)

Add this to the list of key signs that tell you that someone is meant to be in your life is that chance repeatedly brings you together.

Whether it’s that you keep seeming to be linked in ways you didn’t expect or meeting each other by chance, the examples just keep adding up.

It seems like geographically and in so many other ways you just keep crossing paths.

As I said in point two, you just keep bumping into them and coming across them all the time for no discernible reason.

The difference and extra factor here is that chance brings you together in even deeper ways.

You are asked to sit on the same board together…

Or you both meet at an event at your church or somewhere else and find that you have an amazing connection.

Chance just seems to keep wanting you to be together.

11) Your families align

Another of the important aspects of the signs that tell you that someone is meant to be in your life is that your families align.

Your parents and siblings get along and you have get togethers where the conversations flow and the values seem to line up between your clans.

This is a very good sign and is also important in things like marriage.

Marriage is about two individuals, certainly, but it’s also about how two families mesh together.

When your families get along, then you can be better partners and face this world together in a way that’s much more powerful.

12) Your spiritual travels overlap

Another of the key signs that tell you that someone is meant to be in your life is that your spiritual travels overlap.

You find that the pressing questions of life are both influencing you in ways that overlap.

Your journeys are lining up in ways you might not have expected…

But the search for truth and meaning is bringing you closer together as individuals as well.

This is a very positive development, and we can often see how the strongest friendships and romantic connections are between those who are on similar religious or spiritual paths.

Of course sometimes you are on very different spiritual wavelengths, however even then you may find something about this person and how they experience the world really speaks to, stimulates and challenges you in a meaningful way.

13) You often dream about them

Dreams are another way that we receive meaningful signs that tell you that someone is meant to be in your life.

When you dream about somebody you know well or don’t know much, it can be an indicator from the universe that you are meant to link fates with them.

In rare cases, you may even dream of somebody you’ve never met before on a repeated basis.

It seems they are just some fictional creation in your head, but then one day you meet them for real.

This is definitely a sign, and can be a flashing road sign for you to link up with someone and be close to them in an important way.

14) You miss them horribly when they’re gone

Another of the important signs that tell you that someone is meant to be in your life is that you miss them a lot when they’re gone.

This is not in a really codependent or toxic way.

It’s not that you feel “part” of you is missing or that you can’t go on in life without them around.

It’s just that they add so much to your life that you can feel their absence.

And you appreciate them even more.

15) But you’d rather let them go than force them to be with you

At the same time, a sign that someone is meant to be in your life that’s a bit counterintuitive is that you’re willing to let them go.

They mean so much to you, and you’re so sure the universe will bring them back around to you, that you don’t jealously guard them or try to force them to be with you.

When life moves you separate ways you can accept it fully.

Because their happiness and future means so much to you that you’d never try to control it for your own satisfaction or ego.

Destiny at work…

If you’re seeing the signs above then rest assured that it’s destiny at work.
